Lytham - A curious mixture of ancient and modern, Lytham's history can be traced back over 900 years. Already a village by the time of the Doomsday Book, Lytham remained an agricultural and fishing community until the late 18th century when it began to attract sea bathers. Over the following century. Lytham developed into an elegant middle class resort. With the opening of the railway branch line in 1846, Lytham grew furiously with buildings hurriedly built to cope with the deluge of visitors. The town's popular green was laid out in the 1830's mainly as a sea defence. The famous Lytham windmill has stood for almost 180 years - in spite of a disastrous fire in 1918 - and is now home to an information and exhibition centre. Modern day Lytham is pleasant, tree-lined, has many open spaces and a prosperous atmosphere.

St. Anne's - St. Anne's sprang up on the sand dunes and farmland in the west of Lytham manor - the dream health resort of a group of Lancashire businessmen. Sandwiched between a long established Lytham and expanding Blackpool, St. Anne's developed rapidly after slow beginnings in 1872. St. Anne's original residents, the wealthy Lancashire gentry, were responsible for establishing the four fine golf courses. The new town soon acquired the title 'Opal of the West' and vast crowds came to the town to visit the Moorish Pavillion with its gold leaf covered domes.
